Last night I was helping / hindering the putting up of the bunting for the local village carnival. As it is customary to zig-zag across the highway between street lights a certain amount of stepping out into the path of motor vehicles is involved. It makes sense, therefore, to wear a florescent jacket to lower the risk of being mown down.
What I found interesting as a man who usually spends his time behind a desk is how butch you feel in workman’s clothes. Standing around looking serious at the crane as if you are in any way vital to the operation. In reality you are getting under the professionals feet but better that than the wheels of the crane itself.
I dunno, even though it wasn’t that physical it still felt like work and being able to jaywalk in the road and tell, no demand, that cars stop is quite a powerful an experience. Maybe I should buy my own florescent jacket to get noticed at work. 😉
